I made these for Luka’s teachers – the middle one is for his classroom teacher and the other two for the teacher’s assistants. As always, I did these last minute so I had time only for Luka’s teachers – Sven’s teachers received nicely wrapped candy. What can you do!

new christmas stockings

There will be 11 of us in our house over the holidays, including 5 kids, 5 years and under (I know it’s crazy, but for the record, it wasn;t my idea!). I had one nice stocking with Luka’s name on it, so I needed 4 more. I wanted to make Luka one too, so they all match (I am like that) but he wouldn’t have it. He likes the one he helped make last winter in pre school. it’s green. it won;t match.
anyway… I made these from linen and a bit of ikea fabrics. The inside is white fleece – gives them more shape and a bit of volume too. This linen is very thin and had great drape, not so good for this purpose, but I did not have thicker linen on hand. I was planning to stamp the names on there, but the ink I have (not fabric ink) does not do well, it smears. So unless I get fabric ink soon, I will make little hanging labels with names – I am sure Luka will love to write them.

DIY fabric labels

I need labels for my items. I looked around some time ago, but I was not really happy with any of the services (printed or woven labels) – especially given the fact that the min orders are huge (what if I don’t like how they look, feel?). I saw some diy labels on different blogs, and I liked the idea. And I like to look of handmade labels. So, I did some googling and found these:

5 ways to make your own fabric labels from Crafting a Green World – links to 5 interesting tutorials.
Also from Crafting a Green World – Finding Custom Eco-friendly Labels and Hangtags – if you need to buy your labels, at least be green about it.

I already bought twill tape and I have some iron-on transfer paper, so I will try that first. Then I was planning on getting a custom stamp from rubberstamps.net and some fabric ink and try stamping. I will let you know how it goes.

On a similar note, and following an earlier post about fabric stickers (how would you make a sheet of sticky fabric?), here is a tutorial on how to make (sticky) fabric labels (that you would use on e.g. kitchen glass containers); from Making Chicken Salad.
